How to talk about refugees and migration, if I’ve never experinced that myself? The life saving vests lingert in my studio for more than four years before I carefully started working with those. I felt highly respectful to all those people, who know so much better what a life saving vest might mean to a human being in total dispear.
Rescue and safety finally were my starting point. What is it, that makes people feel safe and secure? What is it which safes us from life threatening thoughts and moments?
Here I ripped the seam of a life saving vest to then sew it together in a purposely ‘wrong’ way. Thus creating warped sculptures of the same volume but different formes and not of use
